Sourcing and product development

Marlo'sMatcha

They knew exactly what they wanted it to taste like, and no idea where to start.

Building a matcha brand from scratch, with a clear taste profile in mind and no idea what to do first. She wanted to work with a farm directly rather than buy through a trader.

We loved working with Hana, who guided us through the entire matcha sourcing process. She really helped bring our vision to life, and we could not be more grateful. Communication with Hana is always smooth and easy, and she consistently goes above and beyond, whether it is keeping us updated or sharing new product samples.

Freya, Marlo's Matcha

What we did

  • Took her to the farms
  • Translated in the fields and asked the questions she did not know to ask yet
  • Walked her through the process from the shading to the stone milling
  • Left the supplier decision with her, once she understood the whole thing

The craft

Matcha, where shading the plants before harvest is what produces the sweetness, and stone milling is what produces the texture. Both are decisions the farm makes, not the buyer.

The outcome

Found her supplier partner, independently validated by the founder of Nami Matcha. Now developing matcha blends built specifically for the brand.
